The UK Parliament's Environmental Audit Committee is currently undertaking an enquiry into sustainability in the UK Overseas Territories, including Chagos. NGOs were invited to submit evidence to this consultation.
Earlier this week saw an oral evidence session with Ministers from the Foreign Office and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, as well as representatives from the Department for International Development. Ministers recognised the importance of the Overseas Terrritories in terms of their biodiversity and the session helped to clarify the position of the Overseas Territories with regards to the Convention on Biological Diversity and other international environmental agreements.
